About Us

BBSS Modern Dance, Ikigai, is a close-knit club that nurtures a love for dance in all its members. The dancers work towards a common goal of excellence, supporting each other and building strong bonds as they overcome challenges together. We have a strong culture of teamwork, discipline, and mutual encouragement, where everyone plays a part in helping one another improve.

Ikigai promotes dance as an art form that goes beyond its aesthetic value. Students are exposed to the appreciation, creation, and execution of dance, enabling them to discover their potential both within and beyond the stage. The club also emphasises physical fitness, dance technique, and stage presentation. Through these experiences, our dancers grow into confident, passionate individuals who carry with them the values and skills learned in the studio.

Since 2020, Ikigai has focused on urban and lyrical dance, building on the dancers’ strengths in these genres. Over the years, we have taken part in numerous performances, events, and competitions, each one an opportunity for our members to grow and shine.

In 2024, we competed in Super 24, reaching the finals and achieving 7th place among all secondary schools in Singapore. In 2025, our dancers took part in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) and proudly earned a Certificate of Distinction! The intensive training for both SYF and Super 24 not only honed our skills but also strengthened our team spirit, confidence, and self-esteem.

Beyond competitions, our dancers regularly perform for school events such as the Chinese New Year celebrations, Annual Awards Ceremony, and National Day celebrations. We also contribute to the wider Bukit Batok community by performing at local events, including the Hari Raya Celebrations, sharing our passion for dance with audiences both within and beyond the school.
